Now that the temperatures are warming and days are lengthening, why don't you come out one Friday and join The Beckett Center for Christian Understanding of Islam in exploring the Richmond area? The center provides a community tour a least once monthly, led by an experienced and well informed guide who will answer all of your questions and facilitate each part of the tour. The tours last about two hours (from around 11 a.m. until about 1 p.m.) and provide opportunites for the participants to visit Muslim business outlets and masajid (mosques). A recent tour visited three sites, including an international and halal meat store and a small masjid. The store owner greeted and spoke with us. After observing all of the varied food products, we purchased and sampled a sticky cashew candy cluster made in Lebanon. The masjid was quiescent, awaiting the arrival later in the day of those Muslims who would be attending Friday Prayers there. Hours of The Beckett Center: Mondays and Wednesdays – 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays – 8 a.m. till 12 Noon. The schedule may very, however, so please call The Center before your visit and talk with someone. The Center also offers guided tours of its museum by reservation, including in the evenings and on weekends.
