  Celebrating End of Ramadan 2018   The month of Ramadan ended on June 14 in the Gregorian calendar, and June 15 marked the Islamic celebration Eid al-Fitr of successful fasting as well as completion of other requirements during the month of Ramadan. By 9 a.m. or earlier on Sawwal 1, area Muslims began arriving at the Greater Richmond Convention Center to pray and to hear the  khutbah  being brought by Iman Ammar Amonette (of the Islamic Center of Virginia) ,  the women entering through one door and the men through another. The mood was one of happiness and excitement combined with gratitude to Allah as women greeted women and men greeted men before the participants gradually settled in to worship.
